SARS-CoV-2 Transmission in Patients With Cancer at a Tertiary Care Hospital in Wuhan, China

This review of 1524 patients with cancer found an overall higher risk of SARS-CoV-2 infection than the community (OR, 2.31; 95% CI, 1.89-3.02). Fewer than half of those infected (5/12) were undergoing active cancer treatment.

SPS commentary:

The authors of this research letter note that hospital admission and recurrent hospital visits are potential risk factors for SARS-CoV-2 infection. Although patients over 60 years had a higher incidence of Covid-19, this is in contrast to another population study, and they say acknowledge that a larger sample size in patients with cancer is needed to provide more information on these potential associations.
