Testing strategies for Lynch syndrome in people with endometrial cancer- diagnostics guidance (DG42)

NICE recommends that testing for Lynch syndrome (LS) should be offered to people with endometrial cancer as this is often first cancer people with LS will have, and if diagnosed, treatment and surveillance can be offered to reduce risk of having another LS associated cancer.

SPS commentary:

Lynch syndrome is an inherited condition that increases the risk of certain types of cancer, including endometrial and colorectal cancer. NICE recommends testing for Lynch syndrome after a colorectal cancer diagnosis, but endometrial cancer is often the first cancer that people with Lynch syndrome will have. It is estimated up to 1,000 people with Lynch syndrome could be identified each year if the guidance is followed in the NHS. Guidance follows research that showed almost all women (302 of 305) invited to have the test took up the offer, of which 13 tested positive.
