Undiagnosed type 2 diabetes: an invisible risk factor

Editorial notes diagnosis is straightforward, yet, recent ONS figures estimate 30% (~1 million) of adults living with type 2 diabetes in England between 2013 & 2019 were undiagnosed. Education, screening for high-risk individuals, & public health messaging are essential.

SPS commentary:

The ONS data indicate that 7–10% of adults in England had type 2 diabetes and around one in nine adults (5.1 million people) had prediabetes which suggests that a shockingly high number of people are unaware of their condition.
