Use of Patient Group Directions by Pharmacy Technicians

Position statement supports changing legislation to enable pharmacy technicians to supply and administer medicines under a Patient Group Direction, noting this will increase capacity for pharmacy teams and further support consistency of services being offered within pharmacy.

SPS commentary:

The Royal Pharmaceutical Society has responded to the proposal to amend the Human Medicines Regulations (2012) to enable pharmacy technicians to supply and administer medicines to patients using PGDs. It supports the proposed changes but states that additional training would be needed.
